Where We Interned Student Stories

The Washington Center Internship

The Washington Center was founded in 1975. It is an independent nonprofit organization that provides internship programs and academic seminars to college students from across the country and around the world. It is affiliated with more than 850 colleges and universities nationwide and works with 2,000-3,000 internship placements in Washington representing major professional fields in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. The Washington Center has over 30,000 alumni.

Washington College began an affiliation agreement with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars in 2003. By doing so, this means that Washington College students may participate in a Washington Center internship while maintaining current enrollment at the College and earning credit toward graduation. You can consider the Washington Center Internship experience a domestic study abroad in Washington, DC.

Since the spring term of 2003, 18 students in many different majors have participated. Currently the departments of Political Science, International Studies, Economics, Business, and as of 2006, Art, offer credit for this program. This program is residential; students must reside full time in Washington, D.C. during the internship term.

More information on the Washington Center internship program and the unique experiences it offers to Washington College students is available on the TWC website at http://www.twc.edu. Please review this website and the remaining pages found here prior to a meeting with Dean Kathy Sack, Washington College Liaison for TWC internships. Students cannot be accepted in a Washington Center Internship without first meeting with Dean Sack and participating in a review of application materials.
